Bringing Back Classic TV

Posted by Sloane Kelley on February 13, 2007

Just when you thought it would be tough to catch an old episode of “Gumby,” YouTube steps in and saves the day.

YouTube has entered into a distribution deal with Digital Music Group, Inc. (DGMI), a company that owns or controls the rights to more than 4,000 hours of video. That includes classic TV episodes of "Gumby," "I Spy" and "My Favorite Martian," which will soon be ready for viewing from the comfort of your computer.

The deal will also allow YouTube access to part of DGMI’s music catalog that’s made up of about 40,000 recordings.

Correct Me If I’m Wrong…

Posted by Sloane Kelley on February 05, 2007

Readers of The San Francisco Chronicle have a new way to voice their opinions. The newspaper has launched a podcast called Correct Me If I’m Wrong. The channel turns voice messages left for reporters and editors into podcasts for the world to enjoy and of course repurpose.

The channel’s podcast of a reader complaining about the use of the term “pilotless drones” in an article has made its way to YouTube as a remixed video. It was also turned into a downloadable ringtone.

Phil Bronstein, Vice President and Editor of The Chronicle, came up with the idea of podcasting the voice messages. The New York Times reports:

“This is about listening to your readers,” he (Bronstein) said. “Newspapers used to be a lot more lively than they are now and they could definitely stand some of that.” If readers respond well, he added, the paper might add “dramatic readings” of some of the letters that come in.
