Welcome to Monsters University

Posted by Kristina DeVega on January 09, 2013

I was excited when I saw the trailer for Monsters University in the movie theaters. When I saw Mike hanging from the ceiling like the gorgeous disco ball that he is, I knew that I would love this movie.

Recently, Pixar released a student recruitment video that satirized the very classic and cheesy college commercials. I'm always impressed with Pixar's spot-on humor. Never over-the-top, the animation studio has a knack at cleverly incorporating comedy in their whimsical worlds.

Another project Pixar worked on for Monsters University was its brilliant university website.  From the copy to the layout to the fantastic notes located in the footer, I think I spent more time on this website than my actual alma mater's website.

Resident Evil: Retribution “Street Invasion” Game

Posted by Brian Brunskill on August 31, 2012

Screen shot 2012-08-31 at 2.44.03 pm

To promote their latest movie, "Resident Evil: Retribution", Sony Pictures has released the "Street Invasion" interactive game. By simply providing a valid street address, users are given the opportunity to fight off undead invaders in their own neighborhood.

The mapping technology leveraged for this online game provides users with a personal and almost "too-close-to-home" game experience. Movie tie-in games have been a great opportunity for franchises to engage current fans, and gain some new (myself included).

So if you have any down time this holiday weekend, take some time to save your own neighborhood from zombies. Cheers!

7 Reasons Why We’re So Excited for the New Wes Anderson Movie

Posted by Celby Richoux on January 13, 2012

    1. It’s a love story
    2. The Wilson brothers aren’t in it
    3. It’s Anderson’s return to live action film
    4. The (sample) soundtrack is beautiful
    5. New talent from Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward
    6. Old talent from Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Harvey Keitel
    7. It’s coming out in less than 6 months

Regardless of your current opinion on Wes Anderson, any fan, new or old, is bound to find a sense of glee and excitement from the first trailer for Moonrise Kingdom. Who wouldn't enjoy a love story about two rebellious children, exploring the wilderness together and creating a storm of worry in their small New England town?

Brands can gain some insight from this feature. Anderson is most famous for the fact that he only directs a movie every three to four years, making quality over quantity one of his main staples. When it comes to content, or even overall campaign strategy, it's important to remember that if you don't have something worth saying, it's better not to say anything at all.

A secondary piece of wisdom in Anderson's spaced out productions is the art of building anticipation. Fans are willing to wait years to see one of his new films, and it's almost a guarantee that each film will eclipse the last due to old fans initiating new ones. When something's almost too good to share, that's when consumers are most likely to indoctrinate others.
